Removing Barriers in Healthcare

North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association

A conversation with Adam Sholar, President & CEO

We’re a trade association, and our members are healthcare facilities. Before we worked with VitalOpps, our data sets were stored in separate silos in outdated software that no longer met our needs.

Our aim in deploying Salesforce was to better interact with the people we serve, as opposed to the buildings they work in. We wanted multiple contacts per facility, aggregate data, and a big-picture view of the industry-specific issues our members may be facing any given time.

Because they fully understood our goals, VitalOpps designed Salesforce in the way that is most helpful to us.

Before we engaged VitalOpps, we had no easy way of digitally communicating with our members, and no reliable method of seeing when the same issue arose for members in multiple areas. Now that we can see into our member database and compare trends between member facilities, we can better address our members’ needs.

None of this would have been within our reach without the guidance and expertise of VitalOpps.

The VitalOpps process kept me from trying to do too much at once. Two of the milestones in particular stand out in my mind: the business process review and the data transfer.

During the business process review, we went through multiple rounds of setting up templates.

If we thought we needed a field for XYZ, VitalOpps would ask why - really walking down that path with us. Then they’d find a better solution than what we were proposing.

In short, they made certain we mapped things correctly for our actual business needs.

The data transfer was particularly daunting for me. We had so much to transfer, check, clean up, and verify. And we needed the interface to be user-friendly for the varied staff who use it for different things.

VitalOpps gave really good advice that resulted in a deliberate data transfer. Their crawl, walk, run approach works.

During the deployment I began to see VitalOpps as a sort of translator. The consultants have a deep knowledge of Salesforce; by asking and listening, they were able to see the project through our eyes. Then they applied that understanding to strategically utilize the software’s capabilities.

After our initial project, we re-engaged with VitalOpps on an ongoing basis, and continue to value the support they provide us.

Since its inception in the 1950s, NCHCFA has been a pioneer organization in healthcare. It’s my belief that with VitalOpps’s help, Salesforce will enable us to continue that pioneering spirit - using our clearer visibility to make forward-looking decisions about resources for our members.

Thanks to Vital Opps, we can see what offerings are left on the table, who we’re serving well, and who we can better serve.
